Email File Reader

This plug-in enables Appian applications to process email files already stored in the platform, supporting use cases such as claims management, customer service, legal case management, compliance, records management, and document-based workflow automation. Organizations can convert email correspondence into structured data, associate messages and attachments with business cases, preserve audit-relevant metadata, and route extracted information through Appian processes without connecting to mail servers or external messaging systems.

The plug-in provides an Appian Smart Service that detects and parses Microsoft Outlook MSG and RFC 5322/MIME EML files. It extracts subjects, senders, recipients, reply-to addresses, dates, message IDs, headers, plain-text content, HTML content, RTF content, inline images, regular attachments, and embedded emails. It can recursively process nested messages, return complete and attachment-focused JSON representations, sanitize HTML by removing scripts and external tracking content, and optionally create each attachment as an Appian document. Configurable limits control source size, attachment size, message nesting, MIME parts, headers, and body length, while filename sanitization, bounded processing, safe error handling, and privacy-conscious logging help protect platform stability and sensitive email data.
